English Spinet library, featuring 8 different samples per note (4 releases per note) of an exquisite rare Spinet recorded using only the highest-grade channel strip to ensure superlative quality. There is barely another instrument to combine both zeitgeist and timelessness in the way a spinet does. Despite being around for centuries already, its sound is still relevant in many musical territories, while still being inextricably connected to the musical works of its time. The English Spinet II library features an instrument built by Benjamin Slade in London around 1705. Slade is a manufacturer synonymous with the history of the spinet, known for their unrivalled quality which produced spinets offering a sweet-sounding, majestic and brilliant tone.

The German Spinet 1767 library features one of the few preserved original German spinets; a beautiful sounding instrument by Johann Heinrich Silbermann. The instrument was built in Strasbourg in 1767 and features a bell-like treble response with clear impulse response and a full-bodied sound. Residing at the Germanische Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, the harpsichord remains in great playable condition. Just like harpsichords, the instrument is not touch-sensitive like a piano. However, even if the differences are minuscule, not any given note will sound the same twice due to different resonances of body and strings. When repeatedly playing a note (e.g. playing trills), triggering off the exact same sample will create a sterile and unpleasant impression. Therefore, we captured every note with 8 variations. The sounds of the key releases are also of major importance for a thorough impression of the instrument. Those were recorded with 4 release samples per note.

Bentside Spinet derives from spinetta, a word used for all quilled instruments in 17th-century Italian. The spinet was a preferred household keyboard since it took up less room than the harpsichord, produced a dark & quiet tone, and was aesthetically stunning. As one of the precursors of the pianoforte, the oldest artifact is dated 1490, but started to gain popularity around 1631. By the 18th century, bentside spinets were found all over Europe and were used for daily home entertainment and musical instruction. The instrument shape resembled a harp laid horizontally, with the keys in the position of the sounding-board. As a result, the spinet produced a rich and sustained timbre, but darker and less brilliant than the harpsichord. It had a five octave range with natural keys re-covered with ebony and ivory topped accidentals, giving it a strikingly memorable look.
