Harness the power of FM synthesis and take your sound design to a whole new dimension. Get the edge that’ll truly make your tracks stand out. Learn to make the world’s most advanced synths do your bidding. We chose Dan Larsson to host this masterclass because he specializes in FM synthesis, specifically. He’s a stone-cold FM guru, on the cutting-edge of current genres and emerging production styles.
Do you think FM synthesis is too complex and confusing to use? You won’t anymore after watching this course by artist and trainer. Add FM synthesis to your sound designer’s toolkit now! FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis always had a reputation of being challenging to program, but once you learn it, it’s a very rewarding synthesis method for sound designers and musicians. The most popular hardware FM synth is the vintage Yamaha DX7, but nowadays FM is available in a variety of software instruments. Thankfully it’s much easier to program on a big computer screen than on a tiny DX7 16 x 2 LCD display! With its soft synth shootout approach, this course explores the creative possibilities offered by FM synthesis. FM synthesis is very different from more traditional synthesis methods, so that’s why Rishabh starts the course by diving into some important FM synthesis theory. Operators, carriers and modulators are clearly demonstrated using Reaktor Blocks.
Unleash your 90s nostalgia! We are proud to introduce Vapor Keys: a collection of great sounding FM Electric Piano sample library + an inspiring collection of dreamlike keyboard instruments for Kontakt. It can sound sweet and naive, bright, bold, harsh, trashy, lush & sexy, spacy or even dark and gloomy. Vapor Keys includes 3 deep-sampled classic and modern FM, algorithmic and wavetable synth sources in 1 pack.
‘Supersonic FM’ contains 128 presets for U-he Hive. This soundset uses Hive’s new wavetable oscillators to create a diverse range of new sounds and features plucky FM basses, glitchy rhythmic pads, prophet VS style pads, massive warped, wavefolding bass sounds, twisted arpeggios, super FM plucks and much more.
The origins of FM Synthesis date back to the 1970’s. Frequency modulation is a type of synthesis that is heard in many genres of music including house, pop, dubstep, EDM, electronic music, and more. Popular synthesizers include the Yamaha DX7 keyboard and the software synth Native Instruments FM8 – both of which have been used by notable artists. This course is designed to teach those who may not be familiar or comfortable with synthesis about frequency modulation, and how it can be used as a method of synthesis to create very unique sounds and textures. We will start by making the connection between frequency and pitch, and then introduce the basic concept of frequency modulation by using an LFO to modulate the pitch of a sine wave. By increasing the speed of the modulation, the viewer will notice that it sounds less like the pitch is changing and more like the overall timbre is changing. Once this is understood, we will dive deeper into the Operator instrument in Ableton Live and discuss various ways we can take advantage of frequency modulation by utilizing the four operators, different routing algorithms, and different sources of modulation (LFO, Pitch Envelope, Filter Envelope). At the conclusion of this mini-course the viewer will be able to create unique sounds from scratch by utilizing FM synthesis.
The Rhythmalist is a three-mallets FM Reaktor built with an arpeggiator and a “squelchy” filter effect just to fit in a kind of Ethnic/Ambient music environment.
