Subaqueous has released Retro Drums, a free Ableton Live drum rack (WAV files included!) inspired by the sound of 80s drum machines.
I’ve had a chance to work with some analog drum machines to make Live Drum Racks for my production. The drum machines were the Alesis HR16, LinnDrum, and Simmons Crash Trap.
Retro Drums is available for free download via Subaqueous (9.06 MB download size, contains 76 drum samples in 24-bit WAV format and 1 Ableton Live rack in ALP format).
The download is split into two archives. One contains the drum machine samples in WAV format, while the other one contains the ALP file which should be loaded in Ableton Live. This means that you can use these sounds in any DAW, as long as you have a sampler which is capable of loading WAV files. And that’s pretty much every sampler out there.
The sounds were sampled from three different drum machines from the 80s, including the famous LinnDrum and Alesis HR-16. I’m a huge fan of these two instruments, and I’ll keep the pack even though I don’t own Ableto Live.
There are no audio nor video demos available. As a substitute, here’s a nice video demonstration of the Alesis HR-16 drum machine:
