Waveforms is a series of downloadable sample libraries from Something Else Music Limited. This company is run by the well respected UK sound designer Ian Boddy who has been producing sample libraries since 1992. His work includes Ambient Volumes 1 & 2, Malice in Wonderland, Morphology, Analogue Sequencer Loops & Outer Limits for Zero-G and Transmission-X for Sample Magic. He has also provided patch & sample content for LinPlug, Camel Audio & Rob Papen Soundware.
Radiophonica is the first title in Ian Boddy´s Waveforms series of sample libraries. All the sounds were produced and recorded directly from analogue hardware synthesisers. No digital processing other than a touch of EQ or compression where appropriate was used. Any effects you hear such as flanging, phasing, reverb or echo are from the various analogue components of the modular systems used. The intention was to provide a library of sounds that are synonymous with the name of the Radiophonic Workshop from their early work on such seminal programs as Doctor Who. As such the sounds are intended to have that analogue, organic, retro sci-fi character that many find so appealing about those early synthesiser soundtracks.
The Kontakt 2 programs are a simple C0 – C6 keyspan with C3 as the root key and a basic envelope and low-pass filter provided. The modulation wheel is set to turn the cut-off of the filter down as it is raised. No other programming is included as the sounds themselves are “finished” and it is intended to give the customer the flexibility of adding their own effects and modulations if desired. Simply unzip the downloaded file and place where you wish on your hard drive(s). If you intend to use the Kontakt 2 programs then please leave the internal folder structure intact so that the instruments can find the relevant samples. The WAV files and Kontakt patches are prefixed with the RP identifier.
